About

Renu Velisetty, M.D.

Founder of Lotus Integrative Psychiatry

I am double board-certified in child & adolescent and adult psychiatry, and I am the founder of Lotus Integrative Psychiatry. I created this organization to transform the way mental health is viewed and treated. I believe in the integration of mind, body, and spirit, and that a holistic, individualized approach is imperative for healing. I unify science with compassion, traditional medicine with ancient wisdom, and research with creativity. I am passionate about working with both children and adults of all ages, and have dedicated my life to learning and teaching so that I may help others. It is a privilege to be trusted with your health.

I completed Adult psychiatry residency at Albany Medical Center and Child & Adolescent fellowship at the University of South Dakota. I trained in a variety of settings including the psychiatric ER, inpatient hospitals, outpatient clinics, Veterans Affairs, and substance use treatment centers. I practiced in Des Moines, Iowa as an attending physician for several years in a consultative outpatient clinic, a women’s residential substance use clinic, and as a supervisor to medical residents.

I completed the Professional Training Program in mind-body skills through the Center for Mind Body Medicine and Basic Training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy through the Rozensweig Center for Rapid Recovery. I am also certified to administer Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. I am also enrolled in the Integrative Psychiatry Institute certification program.

I served on the board of directors for the Iowa Chapter of Children’s Advocacy Centers which aims to advocate for children who are victims of abuse and provide training and resources across the state.

I was raised in Ocala, FL so after many years away it is great to be back to my home state and closer to family. I live with my husband, two young daughters, and our dog. As a family we enjoy exploring bike trails, hiking, cooking, and traveling.

In ancient teachings, the lotus is used as a symbol of purity of body and mind, of enlightenment and rebirth. The lotus is rooted in mud, and at night, the flower closes and submerges in the dark, murky water. Every morning, the lotus rises from the mud, and blossoms pure and unsullied.

No matter your circumstances or what you have gone through, nothing can change your inherent worth. The lotus could never grow without the culmination of everything that came before it. Yet it blooms. We, too, can grow despite life’s trials.
